Following Sunday night's raunchy MTV VMAs performance, Miley Cyrus has come under fire from fans and celebrities alike.

Her rendition of Blurred Lines alongside Robin Thicke - during which she was clad in a miniscule nude-coloured bikini - has proved incredibly controversial, being branded everything from 'desperate' to 'uncomfortable'.

Some even went to far as to say they felt 'violated' by the spectacle.

After a friend tweeted Cheyne that season one American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson had badmouthed Miley, calling her a pitchy stripper, the star's protective BFF was quick to retaliate with some choice words of his own.

In response Cheyne hit back 'and she's fat and 30,' during a Twitter exchange with his pal
Dominic Riccitello, who questioned: 'Kelly Clarkson called Miley a pitchy stripper. Do you think she’s mad because her past few singles flopped and wasn’t asked to perform?'

Not content to leave it there, Cheyne then added, '@DominicScott the reasons Kelly Clarkson is bitter could really go on for day (sic).'

With the provocative performance causing a stir the world over thanks to the power of the internet, this is one battle Cheyne and Miley for that matter are likely to lose.

For her part, Miley has remained largely silent since her racy rendition.

She did, however, retweet rapper Trinidad Jame$ tweet, 'Miley is turnt! My ni***,' before later boasting about the number of tweets her show generated.
