Is this why Moyes kept the No 7 shirt free? Neville and Round in Portugal to watch Ronaldo as United line up superstar

Is this why Moyes kept the No 7 shirt free? Neville and Round in Portugal to watch Ronaldo as United line up superstar

Manchester United are continuing to track Cristiano Ronaldo after coaches Phil Neville and Steve Round watched the former Old Trafford star in action for Portugal on Wednesday night.

Neville and Round were at the Algarve Stadium to see Ronaldo score a late equaliser as his side drew 1-1 with Robin van Persie’s Holland in Faro.

United have kept the No.7 shirt vacant with just two days to go before the new season starts in the hope of completing a sensational deal to bring Ronaldo back from Real Madrid – four years after he moved to the Bernabeu in a world record £80million transfer.

The player continues to be coy over his future in Spain despite assurances from Real president Florentino Perez that he will sign a new contract.

With David Moyes and new United chief Ed Woodward yet to sign any players this summer amid continued speculation around Wayne Rooney, United know that capturing Ronaldo would send out a huge message both on and off the field.
Ronaldo evaded questions regarding Jose Mourinho's latest comments after the Portugal friendly.
Mourinho, who left Madrid this summer to return for a second stint at Chelsea, was reported as saying that he trained the 'first Ronaldo' referring to the 36-year-old former Brazil and Real striker.

Mourinho claimed towards the end of his turbulent reign as Madrid boss earlier this summer that his compatriot 'maybe thinks that he knows everything and that the coach cannot improve him any more', that was before Ronaldo scored twice as Real defeated Chelsea 3-1 in the International Champions Cup final in Miami a week ago
But the Portugal international said of the Chelsea manager when asked by reporters: 'I will not talk anything about that person, not worth it.
